About Nyamira County
Nyamira County is located in southwestern Kenya, bordering Kisii, Homa Bay, Kericho and Bomet counties. Nyamira Town is the county headquarters. Rolling hills, fertile volcanic soils, rivers and abundant rainfall support intensive agriculture. The population is predominantly Abagusii. Tea, coffee, bananas, maize, beans, dairy farming and horticulture are the main economic activities, supported by trade and public services. The county preserves rich Abagusii cultural traditions through music, dance, storytelling and community ceremonies. Historically, Nyamira was part of the former Kisii District before becoming a county under devolution and continues to invest in agriculture, education, healthcare and infrastructure.
